With the season opener in the rear view mirror, the ladies will be gearing up for some completely different kind of fishing. Florida can be a different kind of challenge but the opportunities for big fish will be infinite.
When you hear the words “fishing in Florida” there is a handful of lakes most anglers immediately think of the Harris Chain of Lakes as one of them. The Harris Chain consists of eight connecting lakes that have a vast amount of different grasses and cover to fish, Lake Apopka being the largest of the eight lakes. Anglers can expect to see cover such as hydrilla, eelgrass, Kissimmee grass or shellbeds that provide a variety of different ways to target a trophy Florida largemouth. All eight lakes are connected via canals that anglers can idle through from one lake to the next. Once this tournament gets underway, the season will roll on pretty quickly and the competition will get intense for both the boaters and co-anglers. Florida will be a lot warmer and will hopefully fish better than a stingy Lake Seminole that found its way to the season opener due to a weather cancellation at Lake Keowee in January. Fortunately, for those anglers hitting the Florida swing, it will set them up with a little advantage for the late March/early April tournament on Caddo Lake on the Louisiana/Texas border.
Stay tuned for some predictions for Florida and some past results on Caddo
